For instance: I’m listening to Skinny Puppy but downloading Finding Nemo because I really want to see it. Speaking of SK, remember my claim that The Greater Wrong of the Right has a curious but distinct hiphop flavor? (For which I took vehement slack.) I rest my case. Tha thin dogg will be crushing Minneapolis ears November 20 at the Quest, and the following night, HIM descends (which I might miss for an early veg Thanksgiving with my bro—my my, how priorities have changed, eh?)

anyway. i do understand the greater context of Lynne Cheney writing fiction about ambiguous sisterly love. frankly i was trying to step away from politics for a sec and critique it as a piece of “literature” (ha), not necessarily in a vacuum but still… a bit more ding an sich. i hear what you speak, though, for sure. personally i think it was mildly distasteful but it sure as hell wasn’t offensive (and distasteful because it seemed too easy—it wasn’t a cheap shot, but it was such a gimme i didn’t think he’d invoke it).
for republicans to be offended, to be outright *outraged,* is a total sham, and an embarrasing one at that. what was the outrage? that kerry said mary is a lesbian? or that he presumed she’d say her sexual orientation wasn’t a choice?

The book, “sisters” is important not because, OMG a well respected republican women wrote a novel with lesbian innuendo, it is important because the Lynn Cheney shed some alligator tears about Kerry mentioning that her daughter, a high ranking republican official is a lesbian and that it is not a big deal for the Cheney Family. The republican party is trying to get votes through their marriage discrimination constitutional amendment. They want to paint themselves a straight Christian old fashioned patriots and the democrats as viceful, sodomites who prey to Allah.
The fact that the VP daughter is living in a long term relationship with a women and, arguably, is the highest profile lesbian in republican politics is a strategy destroying anomaly. Fortunately for the Karl Rove, while common knowledge in political circles, hell Mary was the outreach coordinator for the gay and lesbian community for Coors Brewing company, many rank and file (read homophobic) voters in the red states were not aware of her sexuality.
Enter Presidential Debates, GW fucked up bad in all debates, his denial that he said that ” i don’t think much about Osama” had the potential to be replayed over and over by the media further weakening his position in the polls.
Rove’s Solution: Mock Outrage at the Kerry’s comments killing two birds with one stone. The republican talking points centered on Lynne saying “he is a very bad man for saying those things” By flooding the media with, “how dare he!” they successfully buried bush’s shitty debate performance and his lies want largely unchallenged. Media Matter for Democracy has shown that Bush’s ” i don’t think of him much” got less than a third as much media air time as Kerry’s “Dicks daughter is a lesbian and is loved very much by her family”.
Game, set, match.
The worst part is that the issue is framed in such a way that it implies that homosexuality is something to be ashamed off. It is a family affair, and only a morally deficient democrat would not know that. Many pundits, including William Safire in the editorial page of the NYTimes, incorrectly said that Kerry outed Mary (absolute bullshit if you know any thing about her political and business career. Most characterized her as a vulnerable person that has no place in the dirty debate politics. Never mind that she is a professional lesbian, (alla the Coors Job) and she is not exactly some insecure girl experimenting in college ( she is almost forty and is a republican official and has been in same sex LTR for many years). The fact that their is almost no mention of Alan Keye’s (republican candidate for senate in illnois) slanderous statements he called her “a selfish hedonist” her sexuality is so hypocritical it makes one want to gag.

as for halloween… good quesiton. the past two years i’ve gone to Ground Zero (i think i said this above) and it’s *packed* but with tourists. which is fine, but they don’t want to have any fun, they just want to gawk and take up space. it’s pretty expensive, too (maybe $15??). it was decent fun the first year but i didn’t have much fun last year. they’re the bondage place, right, and normally it’s pretty lowkey but last year i don’t know what the hell, but i think they wanted to “go all out” to shock the tourists, and the best method of “all out” they could think of was to put the most low budget and degrading porn they could find on the big screens (usually it’s music videos or artsy-industrial type stuff). i don’t want to start a porn debate, but this type of porn, shown as such (inescapable and particularly crude) is not cool. not when i’m all up in my halloween dance groove. going to GZ again isn’t the last thing i’d consider doing, but i’d rather do something else, for sure.
i know First Ave has a costume party (with contest?) that’s supposed to fun. –> i just looked it up, they’re having a Halloween Hoedown with canned beer specials and want everyone in “coveralls and daisy dukes.” eeeehhhhhh….. there’s also “Holla-Ween Hip hop party” in the entry (heh).
so that probably wasn’t helpful at all. who wants a Halloween on a Sunday night, anyway. damn you leap year! damn you.

By emo, i mean several songs have stupid emo beats (a stupid march-like beat with lots of snare) and emo vocal styles.. as well as the complementary melody thing those guys do on those guitars. i hear it very clearly in two different tracks, but i don’t have the disc near me to give you the track names. sorry.
honestly, i will probably never like anything sp did/do after The Process…. and no track will likely compare to Jahya.. because i liked it so much it shut my mind to new things.

October 30, 2004 at 3:02 pmi love the The Process. it was my first taste of SK, and my favorite album of all the ones i have/have heard. the new album is very danceable, which i enjoy, but it also usually means a lot of dumbed down “emo” beats, as you call them, fake. one rant i read on a messageboard said along the lines of “this is an album skinny puppy could’ve recorded 15 years ago in their sleep.” i don’t think it’s that thoughtless, but there are definitely moments/minutes where they’re copping “contemporaries” (break-out bands of the past 14 months) that were better left in the Billboard radiorock budget bin.
