Hi. Not a whole lot of news. Been in and out of good and bad and now I’m just confused but okay with it. For instance: I’m listening to Skinny Puppy but downloading Finding Nemo because I really want to see it. Speaking of SK, remember my claim that The Greater Wrong of the Right has a curious but distinct hiphop flavor? (For which I took vehement slack.) I rest my case. Tha thin dogg will be crushing Minneapolis ears November 20 at the Quest, and the following night, HIM descends (which I might miss for an early veg Thanksgiving with my broβ€”my my, how priorities have changed, eh?)

Dan has the best links: We Have Decided Not to Die.

With my birthday November 3, the day following the election, I figure I’ll have either a superbly awesome or fathomlessly sh!tty day. What’s worse, I’ll turn 24, which for me has always inexplicably been a voodoo magic number, and I think I’m going to die. Please help. Vote democratic.

So. Yeah. Short, sweet, lame, whatever. Have a happy Halloween, do I not update soon. Still haven’t decided what to do or be. It’s a toss-up between A Child Left Behind, Abu Ghraib prisoner, and princess.

A Child Left Behind seems too close to the red-headed step-child to me. Are you going tricking?

i don’t know what i’m doing. i usually go dancing but i’m not sure this year–nothing’s caught my (evil) eye. i’ve done Ground Zero the past couple years, but all told, *yawn.* suggestions?

Hey now, I don’t think I agreed or disagreed with the hip hop perspective. But with the breakdancing video, I can’t argue.

i’s at Barnes and Noble’s yesterday, the megalifestyle center B&N at Har Mar, and saw the most wonderful thing: a stand-up Bill O’Reilly book display positioned between the Gay & Lesbian and Women’s Studies sections. i laughed outloud and kept laughing. i’m going back in with a camera πŸ™‚

    a couple halloween costume suggestions.

    *Jeanna North

*WMD (not sure if this means you have to dress up or not, although wearing a big rocket box custome yeliing boo at people would be hilarious)

*Phyllis Kahn (She has kind of Sally Jesse Raphael glasses , just fill your pockets with campaign literature from both sides. πŸ™‚

    * Ann Coulter (dress super slutty and talk like a sailor.)

remember the video clip of jeanna north brushing aside her hair? no, i’ll never forget it, either.

WMD–that’d be hilarious, but it’s maybe a bit too easy…

phyllis khan–i didn’t get the reference until doing some research. i didn’t hear about that (she swiped her republican opponent’s campaign literature). what the hell? CONDUCT UNBECOMING OF A LEGISLATOR. i’m embarassed. i thought she was one of the good ones. :/ talk to me more about this/her (or bree, jump in).

Ann Coulter–she’s composed entirely of spiders writhing beneath a latex “skin.” ew. no.

good suggestions, all in all. i think i’d make an awesome princess but i’d want to go all out and i’m looking closer in the $10-15 costume range. i don’t know what i’m doing yet, either, and that’ll help determine. hrmmmmm.

oh, and to shawn–you did not agree nor dis- but your look of skepticism said volumes. anna gave me crap about the rap bit, too. i don’t know if i’ve converted her, but suddenly Pro-Test is “my song.” uh huh, okay, whatever.

    well this just in.

i went to whitehouse.org and they have excepts from Lynn Cheney’s magnumopus, “Sisters”. this tawdry, ddimestore romance is a bunch of lesbian erotica.

This was written by the same women who was outraged that kerry would call her 35 year old daughter Mary a lesbian.

    i give up

True, I have a skeptical face that reads like “Atlas Shrugged” sometimes. “Pro-test” does rock my socks, though I’m hard pressed to decide between “I’mmortal” and “DaddyUWarbash”. “I am a god, I am a faceless warrior.”

Maybe Anna and I can have a Meghbash party. There would be much laughter.

No, she took a few pamphlets from some other Republican’s campaign (different district). She’s running against Amanda Hutchings in 59B (ask me about that debate..hi-LARIOUS). She is one of the good ones.

I’m doing get out the vote stuff on Halloween. Candy may be involved. Dunno about costumes.

i read some excerpts from Lynne Cheney’s Sisters. Funny, all things considered, but hardly damaging or “steamy.” it doesn’t mean she doesn’t still suck, though.

Bree, how is “(Phyllis Kahn) took a few pamphlets from some other Republican’s campaign (different district)” different from stealing someone else’s campaign lit? because it’s a different district, it’s not a direct opponent? just want to be clear on it. it doesn’t mean she doesn’t still suck, though. oh wait! i just said that about Lynne Cheney, didn’t i. i didn’t mean to put them on the same level of suck. the reason i was surprised in the first place is because, though i don’t know much about Phyllis Khan, from the bits i’ve gathered i’ve always had a favorable impression (“one of the good ones.”) bleh. whatever. it’s still distasteful. i read the bit about amanda hutchings on your blog, though, so kahn’ll get my vote by default.

if you’re doing get out the vote stuff on Halloween and candy might be involved… i might be interested, if i could join you. i know i’m burdensome. but i’m passionate! and witty! but i suppose i should find out whether you’re stumping for votes in general, for progressives in general… or for nader. we haven’t talked partylines in awhile, dear.

shawn: no meghbash laughter could eclipse my own. i beat myself up all the time.

it would be hawt. but i’d want to go all out and have somewhere to go where people would “get it.” the latter requirement is unfulfilled, and i don’t want to spend the money needed to make it “all out,” anyway. yeah, i’m a chump.

it looks like you got cut off, llama. hope that’s not true (it shouldn’t happen… i’ve paid my haloscan dues… hrm…).

anyway. i do understand the greater context of Lynne Cheney writing fiction about ambiguous sisterly love. frankly i was trying to step away from politics for a sec and critique it as a piece of “literature” (ha), not necessarily in a vacuum but still… a bit more ding an sich. i hear what you speak, though, for sure. personally i think it was mildly distasteful but it sure as hell wasn’t offensive (and distasteful because it seemed too easy—it wasn’t a cheap shot, but it was such a gimme i didn’t think he’d invoke it).

for republicans to be offended, to be outright *outraged,* is a total sham, and an embarrasing one at that. what was the outrage? that kerry said mary is a lesbian? or that he presumed she’d say her sexual orientation wasn’t a choice?

    re: Lynne Cheney

The book, “sisters” is important not because, OMG a well respected republican women wrote a novel with lesbian innuendo, it is important because the Lynn Cheney shed some alligator tears about Kerry mentioning that her daughter, a high ranking republican official is a lesbian and that it is not a big deal for the Cheney Family. The republican party is trying to get votes through their marriage discrimination constitutional amendment. They want to paint themselves a straight Christian old fashioned patriots and the democrats as viceful, sodomites who prey to Allah.

The fact that the VP daughter is living in a long term relationship with a women and, arguably, is the highest profile lesbian in republican politics is a strategy destroying anomaly. Fortunately for the Karl Rove, while common knowledge in political circles, hell Mary was the outreach coordinator for the gay and lesbian community for Coors Brewing company, many rank and file (read homophobic) voters in the red states were not aware of her sexuality.

Enter Presidential Debates, GW fucked up bad in all debates, his denial that he said that ” i don’t think much about Osama” had the potential to be replayed over and over by the media further weakening his position in the polls.

Rove’s Solution: Mock Outrage at the Kerry’s comments killing two birds with one stone. The republican talking points centered on Lynne saying “he is a very bad man for saying those things” By flooding the media with, “how dare he!” they successfully buried bush’s shitty debate performance and his lies want largely unchallenged. Media Matter for Democracy has shown that Bush’s ” i don’t think of him much” got less than a third as much media air time as Kerry’s “Dicks daughter is a lesbian and is loved very much by her family”.

    Game, set, match.

The worst part is that the issue is framed in such a way that it implies that homosexuality is something to be ashamed off. It is a family affair, and only a morally deficient democrat would not know that. Many pundits, including William Safire in the editorial page of the NYTimes, incorrectly said that Kerry outed Mary (absolute bullshit if you know any thing about her political and business career. Most characterized her as a vulnerable person that has no place in the dirty debate politics. Never mind that she is a professional lesbian, (alla the Coors Job) and she is not exactly some insecure girl experimenting in college ( she is almost forty and is a republican official and has been in same sex LTR for many years). The fact that their is almost no mention of Alan Keye’s (republican candidate for senate in illnois) slanderous statements he called her “a selfish hedonist” her sexuality is so hypocritical it makes one want to gag.

Lynn’s book “Sisters” in this context is important. The republican party has tried to suppress this public’s knowledge of the book because it doe

    bwahah ha ha.

overall, i dig the album. i don’t think it’s breaking ground (and should it be? probably. maybe. i don’t know–thoughts, shawn, in-house SK enthusiast?). all i know is it’s *fun*, and that might be the last thing diehard fans want to hear. but yep. i enjoy listening to it—i really do. but… no… it will never “change” me, and will doubtfully inspire beyond me jumping up from behind my desk to dance for a song or two.

i don’t know exactly what you mean by emo, fake, but there is one song toward the end that sounds very… Linkin Park-ish, and i want to punch the crap out of it.

sorry about the cut off rant, bro. but yes, simple comforts make the world go away.

as for halloween… good quesiton. the past two years i’ve gone to Ground Zero (i think i said this above) and it’s *packed* but with tourists. which is fine, but they don’t want to have any fun, they just want to gawk and take up space. it’s pretty expensive, too (maybe $15??). it was decent fun the first year but i didn’t have much fun last year. they’re the bondage place, right, and normally it’s pretty lowkey but last year i don’t know what the hell, but i think they wanted to “go all out” to shock the tourists, and the best method of “all out” they could think of was to put the most low budget and degrading porn they could find on the big screens (usually it’s music videos or artsy-industrial type stuff). i don’t want to start a porn debate, but this type of porn, shown as such (inescapable and particularly crude) is not cool. not when i’m all up in my halloween dance groove. going to GZ again isn’t the last thing i’d consider doing, but i’d rather do something else, for sure.

i know First Ave has a costume party (with contest?) that’s supposed to fun. –> i just looked it up, they’re having a Halloween Hoedown with canned beer specials and want everyone in “coveralls and daisy dukes.” eeeehhhhhh….. there’s also “Holla-Ween Hip hop party” in the entry (heh).

so that probably wasn’t helpful at all. who wants a Halloween on a Sunday night, anyway. damn you leap year! damn you.

right now, someone is shooting an automatic weapon in Paul M.’s building. I’m scanning.

By emo, i mean several songs have stupid emo beats (a stupid march-like beat with lots of snare) and emo vocal styles.. as well as the complementary melody thing those guys do on those guitars. i hear it very clearly in two different tracks, but i don’t have the disc near me to give you the track names. sorry.

honestly, i will probably never like anything sp did/do after The Process…. and no track will likely compare to Jahya.. because i liked it so much it shut my mind to new things.

Right. Lynne Osterman is in a different district, and therefore not running against Phyllis. Not saying it was good or right, but it wasn’t her opponent.

Phyllis *is* one of the good ones. She just has flaws, too (like constantly bashing on Republicans, hiring interns who want her job, etc.).

i love the The Process. it was my first taste of SK, and my favorite album of all the ones i have/have heard. the new album is very danceable, which i enjoy, but it also usually means a lot of dumbed down “emo” beats, as you call them, fake. one rant i read on a messageboard said along the lines of “this is an album skinny puppy could’ve recorded 15 years ago in their sleep.” i don’t think it’s that thoughtless, but there are definitely moments/minutes where they’re copping “contemporaries” (break-out bands of the past 14 months) that were better left in the Billboard radiorock budget bin.
