putting the dick in dick’s sanitation

When I was 17, I lost a Wal-Mart photo print pickup slip from a trip to Chicago. I had a couple other rolls processed in hand so it’s not like I was lying so the woman shuffled through strangers’ pictures looking for Chicago, a grungy teen deep dish tall buildings dirty hostel, um, the El, House of Blues, no I don’t remember what else was happening when the finger punched the shutter. Just stuff. Things. “Did you take pictures of garbage?”

Um. Yes. Yes, I did.

The pile outside my window has been growing all week, crazy overflowing Vancouver strike caliber and I wonder what the hell quelling the urge the past couple of days to run outside and take pictures of trash. I can’t help myself. I don’t really want to.

This morning I gave in. A couple hours later Dick’s Sanitation arrived.

Let me guess. They were able to accomplish this feat of city sanitation without leaving the cab of their garbage truck.

I suppose you could send them (http://www.dickssanitation.com/email_us.cfm) a link. Tell them they are famous.

Actually, no, this guy got out of his truck and spread it around. When the dumpster was lifted, things fell off the heap, so he couldn’t put it down without rearranging. With the leftovers in the bin now, and people adding more garbage, it’s already over the top. It’ll be the same thing all over again next week.

A room with a view, I tell you what.

That is super crappy. It would have taken the guy about three minutes to grab the random bags and toss them in.

Here is the deal though: The sanitation company charges a certain amount to leave a dumpster of a certain size and to remove garbage that is that dumpster once a week or whatever. If the building needs more than that they can pay more to get another dumpster or more frequent pickups. We have the same deal in my town home association. We get a certain size receptacle whose cost is worked into our association dues. If we need a bigger receptacle we have to pay extra to get it. The one week I had a single bag more than my can would hold they left it there in the driveway.

    Shitty though

The real deal is that this is a rear load dumpster, this is a lot of extra trash, probably like another 30-45 minutes of work, the driver has an 10 to 12 hour agenda/route to run. I bet all day every day is like this for the driver. He can only fit so much garbage in his truck before it backs out requiring him to have to go to the dump which is a minimum of another hour. so lets not be rude and overfill dumpsters. this guy has a family life to live I bet, and stuff like this can certainly put that limited time in jeopardy.
