It’s almost October, all right! You know what this means: good smelling changing leaves, lots of spooky-good candy, buckets-of-blood ‘n’ bags-of-bones all ending with a BANG! though really… Halloween is every day : ) Muahahahaha! Now what am I going to wear….
Speaking of wearing things—despite my refusal to wear shirts with words, I would totally wear this. (My birthday’s in November—hint hint!)
Lastly… I have found something beautiful, or rather, something beautiful has found me. Sure sure, I’m always hearing new music, and some bands are damn good and do stick around (while others, true, inevitably fade), but this… wow. It’s been far too long since I’ve been struck with the emotive, intense force that’s of the caliber of Dredg.
No words, all right? there’s nothing to describe ’em, you just have to hear them and really, really listen. To find audio clips of their album “Leitmotif” (another one, “El Cielo” is out October 8th) check out www.dredg.de—this is a German fansite, but don’t freak out, you’ll figure it through. I’ve only listened to them for a little over a week, but it’s been nonstop (even competing heavily, hard, and winning with/over Underworld’s latest, “A Hundred Days Off”—yeah. That’s right). And guess what. I’m seeing them. Tonight. < passes out >
I have a plan. It’s a good plan, and I suggest you use it, too, for beloved music of all kinds. Mp3’s are wonderful, and so is disc burning, but there is also a feeling of… unease that isn’t quite guilt the way an American consumer should feel it, but it’s… something.
These musicians and plenty of other mostly unknown/underground/just plain amazing bands deserve and should have all the exposure they can get, and this is what I’m doing: the album I have is a burned cd. I will buy an album at the show for myself. Then I will give my burned disc to a friend, probably Epich of messagebored infamy, a recent-as-of-this-weekend Minneapolis transplant whom I wish very much would CONTACT ME so I know from where to kidnap him to drag him to this show < ahem >. Epich will have one week to either buy the album himself and in turn give the burned disc to another friend under the same stipulation, or to return it to me so I can give it to someone else.
And glows…
will…
grow.
So go. Inspire one another.
