The free five-hour event features geeky crafts, gaming, costume and art contests, Magic, Minecraft, manga drawing workshops and tons of nerd swag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They asked for staff volunteers; they got a creepy horse galomping about, nuzzling shrieking children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I worked the photo booth, arranging shots into strips and printing them out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/megasimon.com\/d6\/im\/062913\/yomicon_2013.jpg\" alt=\"Three shots of me in a horsehead mask with increasing levels of sassiness.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/aplteens\/sets\/72157634198429935\/\">The kids were so adorable<\/a>, I about died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like my new job a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UPDATE! <a href=\"https:\/\/megasimon.com\/d6\/2013\/08\/13\/above-and-beyond\/\">I won an award!<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yomicon\u2014&#8221;reading con&#8221;\u2014is an annual anime\/manga\/cosplay event for teens at the Austin Public Library.
